Partners in Prosperity: Northeastern State University
Beginning in Tahlequah in 1909, Northeastern State University has made a large and growing imprint on their community. Parts of their history and heritage pay homage to the Cherokee Nation Female Seminary and Cherokee diplomat, Sequoyah that were there before NSU. Links like these make Northeastern State University Oklahoma’s oldest institution of higher learning. While their main campus is now in Tahlequah, they have expanded to campuses in Muskogee and Broken Arrow as well. Another notable expansion also happening currently is the rebuilding of their College of Optometry as they are the only school in the state to offer this program.
Becoming a member of the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce in 1985, Northeastern State University has taken many steps to become involved and dedicated to their hometown. Being a Presenting Sponsor for the Honor Grad Luncheon, and State of Education, it is evident that they make efforts to support education in many aspects. They are also a Gold Sponsor for Back-to-School Breakfast, and Silver Sponsors for Government Affairs, Leadership Tahlequah, and Women in Business.
Being a sponsor of these different events gives Northeastern State University a foot in many doors in this community and shows that they are dedicated to its future and people as well. By sponsoring events like the Honor Grad Luncheon, they are giving high schools seniors the ability to celebrate their accomplishments and be recognized and supported by community professionals and their loved ones.
